Hey guys. From Sacramento, CA here. I need some serious help with this TBI part. The fuel injectors are just spraying fuel into the throttle body when the key is in the ON position. I mean, just drenches it. Fuel gets sprayed everywhere in the manifold area and I have to soak it up to clean it. Been an issue for 6 months. I have tried contacting Holley, other experienced mechanics (7 different ones, including two shops that are GM specialists) and nobody is familiar with this older system. You are my last way to answer this for me.
It did run and start before. Injectors were spraying their nice cone shape of fuel until one of the O-ring seals ripped, back in August 2024. Replaced O-ring seals and still leaks.
I swapped out the battery at the same time as the O-ring seals were replaced. I attached all the appropriate wires, tightened them down. I thought I might have made the ECM get out of "Calibration" with the fuel injection. Maybe sent a huge power signal and ****ed something up.
Does anyone, know anyone, fixed this or even know where to point me in the right direction with this setup? Even a damn part number or something would help substantially. Respond ASAP so I can figure this out.
Maybe the injectors themselves finally took a ****? Maybe stuck open? Is this the work of the ECM or what?
I'm having the exact opposite problem and I'm in Davis. I bought a 91 firebird with the 305 TBI and I drove it for 2 hours home on Sunday then it died in the left lane on the 80. It just stopped injecting fuel. It cranks and sparks but no fuel. starts with starting fluid but never injects so won't stay running. its not the vats and its not the injectors so im thinking fuel pump but why would that have died in the middle of the freeway. It was working fine all morning and the prev owner recently replaced it. I was going to post my own thread but I can't figure out how lol. a shop diagnosed it as the ECM but i don't have any other problems and it was running 5 days ago.
With the key in the "on" position, does it leak continuously or for the duration of the 2 second prime? Can you see/verify where the fuel is leaking from? If from the injector, possibly a short to ground. Venturing a guess that the diaphragm on the fuel pressure regulator could be ruptured sending fuel out of the rectangular window...(pic courtesy of the ultimate TBI mods)

Damn, that sucks. Was that you I seen while I was driving to the Bay Area earlier this week? haha i'm joking but that sucks man. What have you found so far that it could be?
If you have social media, I think we should connect. I am looking for more third generation GM cars near me.
