I have searched all over and cannot find a solution. I have a 1991 305 TBI 5 speed that will crank but will not start. About 6 months ago the speedometer started randomly jumping around and go from working to not working but the car ran fine the entire time. Then a week ago I parked the car and 2 days later went to start it and it just cranked but would not start. The fuel pump is working with plenty of pressure but when I start cranking there is no fuel delivered and no spark. I have tried spraying ether but without spark there is obviously still nothing. I thought it was my ECM so I replaced it but got the same result. All fuses in the fuse box are good. Not sure what to try next. Thank you for any advice

 

What testing has been done so far ?
ohm the pu coil ? Test for acv while cranking at pu coil ?
check power to coil and icm ?
by no fuel are you referring to no fuel pressure or no injector pulse ?

 

No injector pulse. I will test the items you mentioned soon hopefully.

No spark, no injector pulse is USUALLY failed distributor parts--either the pickup coil/magnet, or a failed ignition module. There could be a wire-harness problem. However, failed pickup coil magnets are EPIDEMIC with TBI distributors.

Sometimes they crack all over. Typically, the magnet cracks where the rivet passes through.

There was a time when you could buy a new distributor mainshaft, which got you a new shaft, new pickup coil, new reluctor, and a fresh rotor. Those have been LONG discontinued. About all you can do is to search the Treasure Yards for a usable distributor, or take a chance on some aftermarket distributor.

 

After troubleshooting is done and it has been determined that a replacement distributor is needed, I know a guy that has some (NOS) Genuine GM "Delco Remy" complete distributor assemblies for sell.
