nope.....you need to keep your stock air cleaner and just hook that back up when you get tested, and remember to hook up all the vacuum lines for the thermac and the hot air tube that connects the snorkle and exhaust manifold. believe me, they check all that ish.

i put my stock one back on, just to be sure. it only takes a few mins to do so it is no big deal, but the bottom line is where you go and who looks at your car

I don't see why anyone could care about the open element... the hot air tube doesn't really have much of an effect in the cold and is pointless when it's warm.

CA sucks, had personal experience. This one place wanted me to relocate my O2 sensor on my Edelbrock TES headers because it was not in the stock position, i was thinking "no ****, they are headers, not exhaust manifold". Then one of the guys wanted to fail me because of of my headers, and i was like no stupid, if you look at the dang header you will see the plate welded on with the E.O Carb number on it. Then they were going to automatically fail me because i didnt have a hot air tube going from the snorkle to the header, and they were trying to say the headers were illegal because of that. I was like F this and i left.
I failed my test before this experience so i decided to go back to the same ghetto place i went to before, but the guy is hella cool. He just hooked my car up to the smog machine to see if i would pass, and again i did not and he didnt even charge for a pre-run, i other place wanted 20 bucks.
And is sucks cause my temp registration end at the end of this month, but my moms boyfriend knows someone that says he can just pass me, so i might have to drive 250miles back home this weekend to do this, but it is worth it, i just want to get this smog stuff taken care of so that i can get back to modding this baby up.
Sorry so long, but this should clear up alot of stuff about CA emissions tests, oh yeah, andmake sure you put your IAC back in your air cleaner, they were a bit** about that too.

I asked the guy that was doing the smog check on my wifes Astro last night if my RS would pass the smog check if it had an open element air cleaner and his answer was "NO!" So I guess I will just put the stock air cleaner back on when it is time for testing, not that big of a deal.
