LT1 cam Question

i just recently finished up a LT1 cam installtion but i wanted to know if anyone has had this problem, if it is a problem, i have a 94 LT1 cam from Z28 camaro, now it fits perfect , but the cam dowel pin is slighty slimmer then the stock L03 cam , which allows the cam sprocket to move slightly to the left and right moving in a circular motion, now it looks to me i have eveything lined up fine, i havent fired my motor up yet, but i was wonder if anyone else had this situation, im thinking it could lead to irractic timing if its not on the cam face perfectly, i also notice i have a bit more play in my timing chain, unless i wasnt paying close enough attention to my old timing chain enough, I think the stock one was bit tighter but i might not know the results until i fire her up next week unless some fellow ThirdGen had this same probem or similar proble or maybe might know a quick fix

Thanks, mike

Its been a little while since I did a cam swap, but shouldnt the play in the sprocket dissapear when you torque down the three cam bolts?

yes the play is eliminated when the bolts are torqued down, but i'm not totally sure , (since the cam sproket had movement prevouisly) that it torqued down correctly on the cam face, what i mean by this is , when i torqued the bolts did it tigthen slightly to the left or to the right, or is it on perfect, that the predicament im trying to solve, but i guess i wont know till i start it up this weekend

Im pretty sure that when you tighten down the bolts, it will tighten down perfectly. If Im not mistaken, the dowel is there for indexing purposes only (except on the lt1 where it is also used to drive the opti) so that the upper timing chain sprocket is oriented properly, thus giving you the correct cam timing. Try tighting down the three cam bolts finger tight or a tad bit looser and see if there is still play in the sprocket. When all three are in there, i think the play will be eliminated.
