Edelbrock Intake vs. Good TBI casting
Edelbrock Intake vs. Good TBI casting
I currently have the best casting # TBI intake for flow rating. It is supposed to be a lot better than the L03 intake. I actually did notice a slight gain in upper rpm pull when I installed it awhile back. It's off a 350 truck, not sure of the year. Anyway, does anyone know if the edelbrock performer TBI intake is that much better for flow, or is it simply a reproduction of the GM casting with edelbrock's name on it?
it is a lot better flowing. the gm design is basically a bastardize LG4 intake, the edelbrock design is a variation of the 4barrel performer. not a true bastard like the gm intake because edelbrock changed the plenum area to work better with the already partially atomized fuel from the injectors, instead of drops of fuel like a carb supplies.
the real design difference is just the size though, a much larger plenum area and larger runners, all in package that is only .5" taller than stock and will still fit under your hood with a 14x3 flat base air cleaner.

Tim you are awesome, I was wondering if I'd have the clearance. I already have a truck lid on my air cleaner, but I scrapped the old TBI spacer, so I sould be able to spare a half inch. Is it for sure a direct bolt-on replacement, no mods required?

It is actually kind of a pain to get the edelbrock manifold hooked up correctly. For one thing the manifold vacuum port at the rear of the intake interferes with the stock fuel lines. Also, I would recommend that you put the EGR valve on BEFORE you install the intake. Otherwise it's really a pain in the ****. Nothing too major, but it is definitely not a "bolt it on and go" type of deal. Of course, engines, intakes and fuel lines are all made differently, so my difficulty may have been specific to my application. Most people seem to have no trouble at all with the install.
