check engine light? and o2 sensor?
check engine light? and o2 sensor?
Almost every day when im on the highway and i stay at a consistent speed ova like 50 id say i throw the check engine light, what could this be im just wondering if it could be anything realy bad, oh and i changed the one o2 sensor on the right manifold is their any others or just one thankss
Let me introduce you to code 32
Code 32 is the egr code. When you are crusing down the road at a constant high speed the ecm tells the egr to dump exhaust gas into the intake charge in order to lower combustion temps. This would allow for increased gas mileage because the timing could be further advanced. The ecm looks for an increase in manifold temp sensor as the gas is released, and a drop in pressure. If it doesn't see these things...code 32. This is result from one of several things. One, you have completely removed or disabled the egr, like I have, because the thought of dumping unburnable gas into the intake stream sounds like it just might hurt power. Two, you have a malfunctioning part in the egr itself or any related componets. Third (and most likely), your egr isn't functioning properly because of your lack of back pressure in the exhaust due to a perforance exhaust. The egr valves GM equips are cars with need positive back pressure to operate properly. After you get rid of the factory logs and T pipe
and/or get a 3in cat w/ a catback exhaust, you will have to change out the egr for a negitive back pressure model or eliminate it entirely.

Mine does the same thing, does your light stay on until you shut down, or does it go away when you start hitting stoplights again? Once mine is on it stays that way. It dosen't seem to run any different with or without the SES light on, and its done this since I bought the car. The thing is though, my car isn't hardly modified at all and like I said, it did it before when the car was all stock. Maybe bad/sticking EGR valve? Its not very consistent....
yea once mine goes on it stays one until u shut car off, it used to do it like once a week now every day cause i do alot of highway driving at least 20 miles on highway a day
It will stay on until you shut down...if you have factory exhaust and it still comes on then you have a malfunctioning EGR or more lkely it is all clogged up with soot. Take it and all the connecting vac. lines and clean everything out well. pipe cleaners work well...

Thats what I was wondering about, BTW would the fact that I'm burning about 2 quarts of oil between changes maybe be affecting that?
No soot build up from that I imagine. I do plan on getting that taken care of soon, just hope its valve seals and not the rings! I'm gonna have new valve springs put on too, I mean why not I traded a 10" Rockford sub in a box that I got for next to nothing for a set of never used complete vortech valve springs, might as well use them. Maybe that'll help my loss of top end. And whatevers left from the tax return after paying for that is going to a set of headers. Thanks man

Thanks man I would assume you could pass a "sniff test" since I think EGR only kicks in during "highway mode." At least as far as I know. I'm sure they check that on the visual though. Man I'm glad nothing ever gets tested in my area. Only if you're by chicago or east st louis. I'm about halfway in between for those who don't know their towns in Illinois (most people)
