just got back from the shop from my emissions test.. i passed the carbon monoxide tests with flying colors, and at 2500 rpm, i passed with flying colors.. however at idle i failed the HC test misrablly.. what could cause it to run rich only at idle like that? were dealing with a 2.8 87' v6 here.. i got new plugs, wires, cap and rotor on it too.. also brand spankin new air filters..

i dont know if it helps but i had the same problem with my fiero that had the l4 in it. what happened with the fiero is the computer advanced the idle timing to 40 degrees instead of 10 degrees.

im running out of ideas.. ive checked everything, cant find anything wrong with the car...

 

i couldnt tell you exactly what the problem is but i could suggest a possible fix.

Basically just have the engine running HOT when you get it tested. that should take care of the hc problem as far as they're concerned...
