This noise is driving me nuts

It started about 3-weeks before I put it in storage last year and it persits still. It sounds like a worn bearig but I cannot locate what it is. I cannot even tell where it is coming from. I replaced the U-joints, that wasn't it. I put the car on jackstands and let the tire free spin and no sound. Now the sound does not always occur, but when it does it is loud. NOW, it does stop EVERY time I touch on the brakes, no matter how light. But it does not stop if the E-brake is engaged. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

I'd pull both front wheels and take a look. I might even unbolt the calipers to see what shakes out.

I'm not sure what a worn wheel bearing sounds like.

Any way I had a rubbing/scraping type sound coming from my rear that dissapeared every time I even touched my brakes (I never checked the ebrake though). Yes, the sound wasn't there when I lifted it up and spun the wheel by hand. I needed new brakes though, and the sound went away when I replaced them. I think that the reason I couldn't hear the sound with the wheel off the ground is because the weight of the car wasn't on the wheel.

I had a worn berring in my water pump and my dad showed me a little trick. I get get a fairly long screw drive and touch it to the top of the water pump then put your ear on the end of the screw driver you can hear the vibration. We checked anything that had a belt on it and everything sounded fine except the water pump had a loud strange sound to it. That way we found what berring was worn. Dont were a tie and I hope you dont have long hair. I dont want to see you caught up in a belt.
