Base Timing Setting....How much?

Base Timing Setting....How much?
For maximum performance how much maximum base timing should i set? I have a 1991 Z28 1LE 5.7 L98 With Auto. And to set the timing you pull the black and brown wire near the heater box then reset the computer.
