High Milage engine oil....questions

Hey

has anyone ever used that higher milage engine oil. What does it do, will it help out my car any or just mess it up. Would I be better of going with regual 10w 30 or 5w 30 compared to the higher milage engine oil.

Thanks

My buddy at work starting running Val. Max Life in his 90 S-10 with 160,000 on it. As soon as he changed the oil it started to smoke.............so he drained it out after 3,000 miles and switched back to GTX 10-40 and it quit. So you can go from that......IMO

High mileage oils typically have more polymers to keep the oil thicker at operating temps. Polymers provide the viscosity when the oil heats up, but fewer are better overall. Excessive polymers can cause ring sticking and leave deposits in the engine. If your engine was OK with the oil you were using then just go back. If an engine is old and puffing there is not much any oil will do to circumvent this. I think this high mileage stuff is just marketing more than anything else. Just my 2 cents.
