Fan Relay Problem

I have a 87 305 LG4. The engine code for my Camaro is H. My problem is overheating. The red wire or hot wire that runs to my relay switch on the driver side of the firewall is burning through. I checked sensor in the cylinder head ,and replaced it. Also I checked to see that my fan motor was spining free. I checked my ground at the fan ,it was good. I also replaced the relay switch located on the firewall once. The wires going to the relay on the firewall are:
Position A: Red (Power)
Position B: Brown ,and white
Position C: Green
Position D: Empty
Position E: Black ,and Red( To Fan)
What causes the Red wire to keep burning through? How can I wire fan direct to come on constantly when car is running? Fan doesnt come on till she,s red lining on temp gage. Help.

The senser on the firewall is for the A/C. When you turn on your A/C the fan should turn on. there is a way you can hard wire the fan. What I did to mine is I took the red wire cut it and ran it inside the car to a toggle, and the other side to the bat. that way I can have my car run at 160 or 220. The one thing that can cause the wire to keep burning through is that too much current is going throught the wire. And that wire can only handle so much. If the fan is at least turning on, on its own, summit sells a kit that changes the temp that the fan comes on at. It comes with the sensor and all of the wires.

I did remove the AC system ,and I wonder if it has something to do with my fan problem. I had thought about running the red ,and black wire, which comes from the fan ,to a toggle switch inside the car ,and running a wire from other end of toggle switch to the fuse box for power. I tried jumping the red ,and black fan wire at the relay switch to the red power wire at the relay switch to test this idea ,and see if the fan would come on when jumped ,but it didnt. I think the other wires ,green wire ,and brown ,and white wire are involved some how. Anybody have other methods of wiring the fan to come on.

This should help..

I'm not an electrician, but I just did this. I've got an 87 LG4 with the air conditioning removed, as well.

First of all, my relay/wiring for my fan was FUBAR so my choices were limited. I might suggest you try a few things I didn't if you want to keep your car stock. First, what gauge wire from the fan to the relay do you have that's burning through? If it's like 16, why dont you try running some fresh 10 or 12 (it may be overkill) but the initial pull is 15-20a (I was told)...

If that doesn't work, you could buy like a $40 relay from Pep Boys that has an adjustable on/off temp setup for your fan. You can read more about that at the tech articles... if you cant find it, e-mail or post and I'll just send you the how-to on wiring up that relay

I did it the poor man way... bought a four dollar relay from autozone and 40 ft of 12 gauge wire. You run a lead from the battery to the relay, relay to the fan, fan to ground. You also run the relay to a switched ignition source (or in my case, the hazaard light fuse in your fuse box) and then a wire to a toggle switch, the last wire is from the toggle switch to a ground. Seems like a lot of wires but it's really not...
