alternator wires help quick!! thanks

i have got my car running good now everything is rewired except the tranny and the alternator.. i know the red wire comes from the starter to the alternator but what is the other plug is that a ground?? the slots i am talking bout are the ones that go to the resistor.. because as of right now the battery isnt charging and its a new alternator.. so the only thing that i can think of is that it has somthing to do with the one slot that isnt being used on it right now.. quick help would be great thanks!!!!

just so u know its an older style aternator it has a spot for two wires to go in on the top and a wire is bolted on in the back.. if this helps any
