can i splice switch to wire running directly from fan?

i have a cooling fan problem, as my fan never comes on, and i have a switch in the car from the previous owner that has two wires running to the front of the passenger side near the radiator, they end in metal tabs, but are not spliced into anything, and i need to find wich wire a need to splice into, i dint understand anyones replys in other posts, so a picture would be a major bonus with an arrow pointing to the correct wire.

Thanks

You'll have to get a volt meter and find out what is going on there before you do anything.

You need to see if there is even any voltage going to the fan. If you have voltage, then you must not have a ground. Bad switch.

Now you can replace the switch or you can get it working like you suggested, with a manual switch. But either way, you need to get a volt meter and find out which wire is which. That's the best way to do it.

Worse case scenario, you've got a 50/50 chance!

Seriously, it's not difficult to troubleshoot this type of stuff.

I'm not sure what year your car is...but on my car, an 84 Z28 there is a sending unit on the passenger's side of the engine block....there's a little green wire coming out of it. If I disconnect that wire and ground it (touch it to a bare metal source) the fan will come on, provided the ignition switch is on.

Be careful rigging things up though..........better to get it right.
