Oil Pressure problem
Oil Pressure problem
k i have the long and the short stories, ill write the short question first and give a rundown on the complete situation below (trying to save you some reading time).
is there a way to regulate the oil pressure gauge to return to zero when the ignition is in the "on" position cuz right now it won't zero itself completely.
k, here goes the complete story i just found out my water pump is bad and the weep hole was weeping coolant all month long till i almost had no coolant in my engine ( i added a galon to make it full). my engine was overheating all along and i might have fired my bearings cuz the oil pressure suddenly dropped to about a quarter up the gauge. now for the weird part, the oil pressure won't increse while revving the engine significantley, so if it was a 2/5th up the gauge at idel , it would climb to a third at 4000 rpm .
so today i went put and changed the oil together with bot hthe sensor thingys which were located near teh oil filter ( i figured one of them should be the oil pressure sending unit). now i didnt see any coolant in my old oil ,so a cracked block, or a blown head gasket is not a likley possibility.
after that i turned the engine on the pressure climbed up to 5/6th up the gauge or 500psi (or whatever units they'r using there) but the weird thing is that it wont zero itself when i turn the key to the on position. it stays at about half way up the gauge or 275(whatever units they'r using).
did i screw up anything when i changed the two sensor thingys near the oil filter , and is there a way i can fix it .

Tagging on to your post..
The oil pressure gauge in my '87 zeros out when i turn the car OFF, not on. The oil pressure gauge on my '89 RS goes all the way UP, wayyy past the '60' listed at the furthest marking on the high side of the gauge, when I turn the car off.
Here's what I think is weird:
when i start the car, the guage will fluctuate back and forth, but never below the '60' mark. After the car has been running for a few minutes, I put it in gear and the oil pressure gauge will drop to the normal 30-or so I usually see at idle. At WOT and other RPM ranges, it fluctuates fairly normally, never even close to exceeding that 60 mark,
until I turn the car off again...
I'm just hoping anyone with an answer to the question above has a solution for me, too....
