shifter thread size

hey guys i have a t-handle hust shifter **** from my dad 66 chevelle when he was a kid. well it way to small to fit on my shifter so i need to drill and tap it out. my question to u is what is the thread size on my 89 t-5 5-speed shifter? i have tried goin to home depot and findin a bolt that fit into the stock **** but there are lek 10 diff sizes that see to fit good but its plastic so u can't really tell. well if any1 knows this i would be very thankful.thanks guys

Don't quote me, since there are differences between shifters, but you might want to get a M16x1.5 nut and try it.
