Not due to this site.

Do you use Kazaa or some other filesharing program??
That would be why.

as much as i like kazaa for filesharring it has some terrible problems. the program really f's with your computer. there is always something runing in the background on your computer all the time slowing it down plus all of the freakin pop ups.

Computers are as techy as tech gets! If you've got Win 95 or Newer... and I would imagine you must, press Ctrl-Alt-Del and you'll get a list of programs currently running on your computer... most of them anyway (keyloggers, etc, don't show up here)

Anyway, it's pretty obvious which ones are which... and honeslty, there's nothing wrong with experimenting- closing programs to determine which are unnecessary... that's one way to turn the Kazaa pop-ups off.

the other way is to disable the "run at start-up" property... you can turn it on and off like a toggle switch That way kazaa will only run when you tell it to...

may seem obvious...but some things about cars that seem obvious to others, aren't so obvious to me..

dps, it's not that easy. i went as far as using this program ad-aware that's supposed to delete all those files that creat the pop-ups and it didnt work and for some reason the program was in german after the first time i used it, but english the first. it uninstalled the popup stuff kazaa uses but then kazaa said that some required files were deleted and wouldnt let me on, i had to reinstall kazaa.

i sometime get as many as four or five popups within a minute, it's really aggravating. one of the companies is internetfuel.com which makes a popup appear whenever you press the back button (according to their website) but i get popups all the time. i tried contacting them but the guy i needed to speak to wasnt there. surprise surprise. i dunno what else to do.

Another thing about kazaa slowing the computer down, when you click the X to close kazaa, it's still running in the background, so use what dps said to quit it from still running, or use the toolbar at the bottom to close it, I know on XP it's hidden till I hit the arrow at the bottom to view it still running.

Hey tom, try clearing your cookies and see if it does it again.

As far as Kazza goes, that is loaded with spyware. You'd never catch me using it. I use Winmx which connects to over 200 servers, I always find what i need.

What operating system are you on Tom, and what version of IE. Early versions of IE are bad. Tons of flaws, such as going to a web page can change your settings and stuff.

I tried WinMX, but trying to connect was a pain in the @ss. It had more files, but I found Kazaa more user friendly.

KaZaa, BearShare, Morpheus...all of these Napster file-sharing clones are out to get advertisements (at the very least) on your computer and ruin your day. RealPlayer is getting sneaky like that to, running in the background even when you tell it not to...my friends' all has slow-as-hell, ad-ravaged computers, and it's always from either these type of programs or other 'free' software that they get for their CPU. DELETE KAZAA, and anything similar.....GATOR, too, or BanzaiBuddy, or whatever the hell it's called.

they are called worms and backdoor trojans..kaaza is loaded with them as well as morpheus....I had the same problem ..It got so bad I had to reinstall XP, as explorer is part of the OS, you cant uninstall 6.0 explorer.
There are alot of spyware detectors out there and most of them dont work.
The best thing to do is reinstall windows and stay WAY clear of file sharing programs unless you like your privacy invaded...as well a a very slow internet experiance...my .02

stops pop-ups pretty good. If you have a pop-up that you want to come up and it kills it anyway, it's easy to disable it. Just hold control and then click the link--very rarely will you ever have to do it anyway.

Adaware works really well in removing spyware. http://www.lavasoft.nu/

Spyware is stuff that allows people/computers/software to 'spy' on your computer. For example surfing habits. Adaware will remove all of this. If you surf the net much at all you will have some spyware, no matter how careful you are--it's embedded into some websites. However it doesn't remove any pop-ups at all--they are different. Adaware will stop Kazaa from working though--Kazaa 'sees' when you remove the spyware.

I would much rather have pop-ups than spyware. Pop-ups can be stopped(with the above popupstopper), or just closed. Gnucleus is my favorite filesharing program. No spyware at all. http://www.gnucleus.com/

http://www.cdfreaks.com/document.php3?Doc=43
discussion on spyware(one of the many)

Download Adaware and do a full scan. Post how much stuff you find. Anybody that surfs the internet should probably use adaware once in a while.

I deal with all of this, plus spam, and a bunch of other stuff every day as part of my job

Kazaa has no worms or trojans--those are virus-like items that an antivirus will pick-up and the companies can get into trouble for that stuff. Spyware is still legal though.

windows/explorer.exe That is the name of the worm I got from installing morpheus......I have the latest virus protection from E-trust and it failed to pick it up, as did norton 2002.
What it did was put a advertiesment header right below I.E 6.0
Any way I got rid of it.....
The only way I found it was by running Zone Alarm Pro..the program kept trying to connect to the internet every time I started my Computer.

well if u go into your normal c drive setup there should be a lil mini computer thinger there. i had my buddies dad mess with my computer a lil bit and he said that since it is there that is what is runnin in the background. so i moved that file and i noticed a lil difference but not much. as to when you close the program down and its still running right click the k icon in your taskbar and hit close and that should get rid of it.you guys think u have it bad i only conncect at aroun 21600kbps. that is freakin slow compared to u college guys. it takes me any where from an hour to two to dload a song. so i just do it at night when i go to bed

Too true! Here at school everyones computers are TERRIBLY slow. I've found that my 550mhz athlon runs faster than every p4 900 that I've touched. I've found that "Gator" **** can install itself from some websites, and I stay away from kazaa, morpheus, etc completely. I run firewalls, virus scanners, ad-aware, and pop-up stopper constantly. The internet has become a huge billboard.

If a virus installs a system file or overwrites a file you cannot delete while in windows, you need to run a different os or startup with a command prompt only, then replace the file. In windows xp you can run a file checking program off of the install cd that will replace irregular files, although I forget the command for it atm.

Probably not considered a worm if "put a advertiesment header right below I.E 6.0" and tries to connect to the internet. That would be spyware. A worm needs to replicate, spread itself, infect other files, and such to be considered a worm. A worm is a self contained virus--it doesn't need a host file to spread like a virus. If you surf the net at all, you are at risk of getting spyware, virus, worms, and other stuff. Run the adaware program every once in a while, don't use known spyware programs, use a good antivirus(norton pccillin) and update it often. If you have a dedicated connection use some type of firewall program(at the least a port blocker). Verify that you aren't sharing the C drive across the network(I can search some IP's on the net right now and access numerous C drives and delete what ever I want(or add what I want). Any questions just send me an email. nateisworking@hotmail.com

Hey everybody I have a easy solution to your Kazaa troubles. Go to http://www.google.com and then type in kazaa lite. What it is is that somebody made a light version that gets rid of all popups and spyware that is used in Kazaa. It just simply lets you use the progam with no popups. If you already have Kazaa then there is a program which will remove the spyware and popups from Kazaa there as well. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

tell ya the truth I didnt know what it was....Zone labs are the ones who named it a worm/trojan...they said the program is named windows/explorer.exe. The name tricks alot of people int allowing the program access to the internet..its harmless it just takes up alot of resources.....of course there is a lagit process called windows explorer without the /. But it doesnt need configuring to access the web.

I couldnt get Norton 2002 to run on XP..some can some cant...E-trust works great, and uses little ram.

I think thats called hacking.....now on the president's..list of terrorist qualifications...[
