Spark Plug Temp Range

Ok, Maybe I am a retard , but how do know what the temp range is of spark plugs. I'm going to install a 160* stat and jet fan switch to run a little cooler. Do I need to worry about this or will stock plugs be OK??

Dazed and Confused

I don't remember forgetting anything

As far as I know they're all the same, except copper conducts better than platinum.

Though with a 160* you might get slightly less mpg than say a 180* since all the fuel might not get burnt.

If you're running a computer I wouldn't go with a 160*.

So you think a 180* stat is best choice? I am running a computer.I have a 305 TBI and I like my gas mileage just like it is now. Also. I don't want any computer problems by forcing the car to run cooler than stock. Thanks for your help.:hail:

I don't know everything about CC cars, but I hear that a 160* might cause some problems. I would go with a 180*, and if you want to run cooler, maybe try some water wetter.

I'm not positive what a JET fan switch is, but I assume a lower temp that the fan turns on at. Which will help a lot, since stock setting is around 220*.

Yeah, I 've heard horror stories about 160* stats and then people who had no probs at all. The Jet fan switch turns the fan on @200 and off @ 185* on the the one I'm getting. I've just noticed people on these posts make reference to a lower temp range spark plug and I had no clue what they where talking about. Thanks again.

The temp range of a spark plug is used for a hotter or cooler spark. If you drag race alot you'll want a cooler plug, try champions, If you don't want to change plugs every 3,000 miles or less check out bosch platinums. I don't think they print the temp. range on the boxes so you'll have to gamble with the parts store guy, preferably go to a performance store or call loper's.
