Suggestions?

Remove the rear cover of the replacement pump and inspect the impeller before you install the unit. I've seen a lot of remans with eroded impellers that barely move any coolant, but they're sold with a "lifetime" warranty anyway.

Clean the replacement pump of any rust inhibitor coating and paint the outside (except the gasket flanges and hub/shaft) to prevent rust. There is no real need for a high temperature enamel here since the pump should never exceed 300°F. Plain old Rustoleum should be fine.

Clean the gasket surfaces on the front of the engine thoroughtly and you won't need any RTV sealant, just a little High-Tack adhesive to hold the gaskets in place while you mount the pump.

Since the cooling system is already open, this is a great opportunity to flush the system and install a new thermostat. Your new pump will appreciate the lubricant and seal conditioner in the fresh antifreeze mixture.

instead of rtv or the sticky gasket adhesive at auto stores just use 3m adhesive. that stuff from autozone doesnt hold SH!IT on. plus the 3m will just melt/burn off from the heat so them it is only temporary. plus if that auto adhesive actually works for u is bonds the freakin gasket to the surface of the part and makes it even hard to scrape off the next time you change something.
