Good Idea or Bad Idea??
OK, I'm asking this here, since I might get some more answers and it might involve the engine also.
I have to replace the donut gasket on my headers, this is like the 3rd leak so far, first for the donut gasket. Which is really annoying, now it's supposed to be raining tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I will get a chance to do it, and I have to go back to college tomorrow nite (the leak is embarassing and starting to make a quiet backfire when revved high), but would it be a Good Idea to have the exhaust shop just weld the headers on the driver's side where it meets the y-pipe so it won't leak anymore. What kind of problems might this cause if I ever have to take the engine out, or later on down the road change headers, which would be several years most likely.

Mark,
My buddy has that done to his 90 RS, and we didn't have any problems at all.....when we pull the engine which is like every other week because his blows them up ......we just take out the passange side header and we have plenty of room. Just my .02

Hrm... never really thought of that. I'd go for it if you don't think you'll need to deal with it for awhile. Do they have aluminium or copper donut gaskets like they have for the header gaskets?

It's kind of like a plastic rubber type material, different than what you would think it would look like.
Thing is, last time I had the guy weld my y-pipe to the I-pipe, it was like a 5 min job and he charged me $40.
