Car hesitates over 60 mph ?
I have an 89 Formula 350 with tpi and I am experiencing a hesitation when I try to accelerate more than 60 mph. If I accelerate from a stop the car pulls real hard until I get around 60 mph and then the engine starts to skip & sputter and then stops when I let off the gas. It will cruse along fine at this speed but as soon as I try to accelerate past 60 mph it starts to skip again and the needle on the tach bounces. Another thing that I noticed is when I have the windows down and when it starts to skip I can smell fumes from the engine like it is runing rich, so I think it is an ignition problem. The wires, coil, cap & rotor are all new. Other than that the car runs fine it is almost like the car is governed at 60 mph. Any ideas where to start checking? Thanks!

That is a good idea, it is an intermittent problem and only happens once in awhile. Like I said it is speed related, I can sit at a light and rev it up and it runs fine or I can accelerate just fine until I reach 60 +- mph. Very strange!
