Recommendations for hurst shifters...and WTF is up w/ them??
First off, anybody know what the heck happened to Hurst? Had an order on the Quarter Stick thru Jegs...called today to find out about my order and find its on backorder with no ETA. Called up another company that I found on the net (www.quicktimeperformance.com check it out btw...lots of F-body stuff). Well the guy, Barry, checked his warehouses and almost all of the hurst shifters weren't available. Now I vaguely remember someone saying before that hurst had a huge backorder on some shifters (can't remember which) but didn't think they'd still be on BO. So does anybody know what is up with Hurst, or where the heck I can get a quarter stick shifter??
One last thing... anybody have any experience w/ installing the Pro-matic 2 on a firebird? He said he has that in his warehouses and could order it for me if I wanted. How hard is installation? Any modification of the console needed? How is it compared to others??
Thanks for the help.

A few years ago, Hurst was bought out by Mr. Gasket, they never recovered back to their glory from the earlier years. Now that there are a bunch of accountants deciding what and how many should be made, instead of the creative geniuses that used to be there, the quality has gone downhill.
Luckily, their earlier design shifters (Competition Plus 4 speed, and Indy shifters) haven't been altered, or made cheaper. Of course, they haven't been updated either, but...

yeah, gotta love pencil-pushing accountants that screw stuff up...
anyways... i found that the B&M Pro Stick shifter is identical to the Hurst Quarter stick - - guess I'll be ordering that instead now.
Anybody have any fitment problems in firebirds w/ any of these shifters? Is the shifter too short, or shifter opening too small? I dont think it is, but Mr. Murphy always manages to join me when I tool around on my car.

i like the B&M quality more than hurst.....that and the fact that B&M shifters aren't packaged with missing hardware and missing pages out of the instructions. i heard many stories of hurst shifters missing those vital parts.

Hurst aint what it use to be!
I messed around with a pro stick (still go it BTW, offer?). The only thing I noticed was in order to use it you need to raise the shifter a little bit via 2 bolts per hole in order to reach 1st, without raising it up it would lay almost flat when droped into 1st gear.
Back to rant about hurst. Just today I finised dropping my coulmb shift in my truck to the floor (again). I had bough a $180 shifter from Hurst but when comparing it to an $80 job I had, found it to be too similar for my taste considering the $80 shifter only spent two months in the truck. I went to the junk yard and found an old merc commet with a factory Hurst floor shift that makes the newer ones look like toys. After Making the car shifter fit the truck I can honestly say no comparision! Hurst has went far down hill since the 60's.
LOL doesent have anything to do with your situation but just one of those things I have to rant about.
