Gear drive Q's
Gear drive Q's
Alright fella's,
I'd like to get a gear drive for my camaro.I just like the way they sound. After looking in many catalogs, all of them say no hydraulic-roller camshaft applications. I have an 89 l98 350 in my car with a TBI on it..That motor has a roller cam right? is there a specific gear drive i would have to buy..or is there just none at all for that application? If there is,how long would i be looking at to install it?thanks.

Don't get the gear drive. It sounds cool in other peoples cars only. I had one and couldn't stand it. Took it out. But if you must have one, I'll sell you mine for $50 +shipping. It's the Pete Jackson noisy one. That is if you find out if it will work with your setup, or go to regular hydraulic lifters.

You can't use a pete jackson on a roller engine, not to mention their a 4 gear system if i remember correctlly.4 gear systems rob HP at high rpm's compared to 3 gear systems. You can use a better quality Milodon set up.It comes with a gear drive cover with built in cam button.Pretty nice setup,go here to check it out

You will need the quiet version for you L98 because the knock sensor will go into fits.
Gear Drives get annoying after driving with them for like a month.

Well, they say (and so do the other manufacturers) that they are 'race only.' I know a couple *cough* Ford *cough* guys running belts and have been doing so for a while on street driven cars. One of those is a stroked 302 with a Vortech of some sort, he's into the 10's with it. I couldnt imagine they are any less durable than any other timing belt, aside of engine abuse... you know, the kind from a real engine with serious hp, not some 4 hole rice toaster
