Help! Car is dead I beleive its the alternator.

Well my stereo sucks alot of power, over the past week the battery gauge has been running very low, When I hit the gas the needle went down instead of up!I just got home from work by the time I got to my house the gauge was reading 8 volts and the lights were very dim, I shut the car and now it won't start obviously.. I guess its my alternator, theres no smell from it like its fried or anything, I dont know what else would cause it, in any event I need to know where to buy a good alternator, Im looking for a higher amp alternator, I'm not sure what they come, but Id guess higher than 140 amp but I don't need 200 amp.. I'm not looking to buy cheapie one either, I heard the one's in summit arent too good.. If anyone can let me know ASAP I need to get one shipped out fast! thanks alot

Just buy a standard replacement alternator and get your core for the old one.

It definitely sounds like an alternator to me. You wont always smell it being fried, even the regulator could just be out of whack.

I finally got my stereo finished after all this time, I'm not going back now I need to get a higher amp alternator, If this one died then the next one will also, before I started running the stereo on this much power everything was fine, now im running about 1300 RMS(continuous) watts so a stock replacement probably wouldn't hold up.. I just want to make sure I get a good replacement..
