I took the cap off to replace the ignition module on my TBI 305 TA (car stopped running after two days of rugh idle and stalling. Already replaced fuel filter and pump primes for 2 secs with key turned) and the round piece of metal that sits under the copper(?) lock ring ontop of the dist. fell out from under the ring in three very rusty parts? Time for a new dist? Would that make my car die? The car is cranking BTW.Thanks.

 

umm, ya think Do you need a whole distributor or just the cap? $80 (HEIvac) vs. $15 (cap only)...

 

I'm going whole dist. which is good b/c I have two spares here.

 

 

If that "round piece of metal" is what I think it might be (reluctor?), a reman distributor would be easier than trying to find the parts and repair the original.
