Can I start the car without the EGR valve?

I got my new intake and carb installed and am still waiting on an EGR adapter. I was wondering if I can start the car without it or will it end up spraying gas all over the place? I just want to test start the car and won't be driving it anywhere.

Matt

It will spew exhaust, and have a massive vacuum leak. Won't idle very happily at all.

You can plug the intake side of the EGR with a wadded rag or whatever it takes to seal the vacuum leak. You'll get a lot of exhaust noise from the other port, but could probably plug that with wadded aluminum foil temporarily.
