What should my timing be??

85 Z28 with 350 edelbrock 750 carb. HEI dist. with advance secondary for carb. Have Comp Cam 270. Nothing else done to the block no over bore or anything. Stock balancer. Called around and got all different kinds of ideas. Nothing for sure. Shop said 12 and the 32 degress BTDC. Another 8 BTDC. Does any of this sound right? I know how to do the timing and all. Just don't know what the mark on the balancer should hit the timing tab at. Someone help me

Ok, I've been on this site now for about 8 months. The reason why is to get info make the old brain work. Try to get some knowledge about the things I don't really know about. To you the older members, I ask for help. Some one out there should know about my timing problems. I just need a push thats all I ask for. I have all these damn different degrees. Which one is right?? People at MSD tell me one thing about 8*. Others have told me different. So I ask Where should my base line start. With this new cam, the shop guy said it would be different timing. Than just a regular 350. Please I must get my Camaro back one the road. I have to do this before I can set my carb up. Thank-YOU

everybody's car is a little different. I would start at a base timing of 6*-8*. This gives you a starting point. Alot depends on your cam and heads. Some can hold more timing than others.
I have received TONS of help on this board....some came quickly....some not so quickly....The point is , if I give the right info, do the searches and PM some specific people, I usually get some answeres.Be a little more patient and you will get the help you need. Sheesh you act like you
are paying for this service.......Relax a little and Search the Archives while you are waiting for replys...BE

For this yes I'm sorry. Just so pissed, trying to do brain surgery on an old ECM and harness. Trying to get it out whole, without loseing to much. Thanks for the Riley's. I did check my timing and it was at 7* so I set it at 8*. Soon I'll go out for a little drive and see how she works. Don't mean to have people take it personal. I see some post go with 500 replies. Then me I get one. Thanks
