Gas tank in position to replace fuel pump, now what?
I spent a few hours getting my gas tank in position to replace the fuel pump (rusted bolts SUCK!). I decided to stop for the night. Now my question is, how do I get the pump out of the tank? There is a round thing with tabs on it. Do I do something with these tabs? Here is a pic (not my pic, I dropped the rearend instead of cutting a hole in my car):

This is what I am looking at with the tank dropped down out of the car. What do I do from here? The more details, the better. Thanks.

You need to "unscrew" the center ring. The way that I did it was to tap the tab with a flat-head screwdriver and a hammer in the "lefty, loosey" direction untill the center ring popped out. If you look at real closely you'll see what I mean. Make sure you clean it first so that no dirt falls in to your tank when you get it open.
EDIT: Also make sure that you replace the strainer, fuel filter and the pulsator too or you'll probably have to do it all over again.

It's a little piece that goes between the fuel pump and the fuel line. When I did mine, the previous owner had just stuck a piece of hose there.
to me, it looks like a tiny little brake fluid resivoir (spell)
The new on slides into place and doesn't have any hose clamps.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot. It's inside the tank. and it slides onto the fuel pump and the fuel line.

Especially on a high-pressure system. The last thing you want to do after you have it all back together is take it all back out because it blew off without a clamp there.
Also, it's a good idea to use a brass punch instead of a screwdriver on that retainer ring. Brass won't cause sparks when it's smacked against steel, and sparks are bad around gas tanks.
