howling in rear while spinning out..
I have recently began to here this noise comming from my rear end (on my car) that sounds like a howling noise whenever im not getting traction and spinning out. Like when its wet if i accidently start to spin out (which almost always seems to happen even when i try not to). or when im accelerating hard on dry road and im spinning some, or any other occasion, i hear a howling sound coming from the rear. The first time i noticed it was when I lost control on a dirt road trying to take it sideways and ended up bottoming out the middle my car on a dirt mound. and hitting the left rear wheel pretty hard in a small ditch, enough to make the tire go flat. (it came off the bead of the rim).. nothing major, there was no damage other then a flat tire, but when i had it in reverse and was trying to back up, one wheel would spin freely and the other would barley spin at all, i heard the howling noise also, and it was REALLY loud. and ever since then I have noticed it more then probably before. ( i had to end up getting our jeep out there to pull the car off the mound) Could i have damaged the rear some how? or maybe wore out the clutches in the diff.? should i try checking the fluid? when i changed it last, i used mobil one synthetic, and didn't add any limited slip fluid, because the Mobil One said that it had it in it already or something... Any clues??

I would say it could be the posi unit, you can pull of the differential cover and take a look. See if the fluid is really dirty, orthere us debris or chunks in there, also check out eh gears and make sure they look alright. Then replace the fluid and make sure to add posi/limited slip additive.

you MUST add the additive...If you hit hard enough to bust the bead on your tire, there is a good chance you have done some other damage...axle?
Where else besides the dealership can I get this? I remembers seeing it at like One other parts store.. but im not sure that i did.. OR does only the dealer have the additive?

You can get the additive at any auto parts store, although some people say its not as good as the genuine GM stuff. But its gotta be good enough.

Does it really matter what additive you add, i mean how much of a differance can it make if they all meet specs.

But i thought another symptom of needing the additive was a chattering noise when turning sharply, I'v never heard anything while turning, just when spinning out. But i'll get some anyways, Just trying to make sure that nothing else is screwed..
