foamy coolant

Hey guys, summer is finally here, and I see its taking its toll on a lot of engines this week. There's quite a few cooling problem threads on the board today, and alot of cars in parking lots with the hood open.

I replaced my thermostat yesterday, and when I was filling my radiator I noticed the coolant was starting to foam. I had the engine running and the heat on. What causes this? My other camaro used to do the same thing. Is it normal?

I've seen foam from 40 below, detergents, and other additives.
You might have some residuals additives still in the system.

You can try flushing the system till the water is cyrstal clear, and then adding coolant/anti-freeze.

Foam can be caused by residue.......but if its bubbly foam it could be a cracked block or head.

I would add a 30/ 70 percent coolant to water ratio. More water than coolant should run a lot cooler.!

I dont think hes overheating? Just has foam......If there is any cracks in the block it could allow just enough air in to cause foam........Probably nothing to worry about.

Yes, the foam is bubbly like soap suds. I guess I'll flush the system and see if it still foams. I hope its not a cracked block or heads.
