grinding/knicking sound in gear....
I know it isnt thirdgen related but you guys are always helpful about things. In my newly acquired 94 full sized blazer, i just noticed an odd sound. I started my truck up and went to go golfing, in park it sounded fine. I put it in gear and took off. As i hit about 2k rpm, i heard what sounded like grinding. It sounds like something is spinning and then running into another part causing a grind. I cant figure it out. I went home and let it warm up some more. Checked my fluid levels and they all looked fine. Yesterday the car ran just fine. It revs fine in park/neutral. I checked the archives and i came across pilot bearings which sounded somewhat like what im experiencing. The car has 147,680 miles on it and otherwise runs like a charm. I noticed that when in drive the car likes to hold a gear for a while. While cruising it shifts to the next gear at about 2500 rpm. When flooring it the car shifts at about 5k. Also, i noticed that the car does not wind down very fast at all, for instance when in park if i rev it to about 3k, the car will take a good few seconds below finally settling down at 650rpm. Does this sound like anything in particular? The car has a newer rear end in it, same motor/trans. It doesnt overheat, the power steering system is a little suspect (whining).
