Car Has Trouble Starting... HeLp!i!i!

Well... my friend just got a 1991 Camaro RS... Black... well it looks good and all and he got a sweet deal on it... tell ya later... but sometimes when he goes to start his car... he turns the key and it makes this weird sound... like the engine is TRYIN to start... it turns over but it won't start... it makes this kinda dry raspy noise like 2 or 3 times like RARRRR RARRRR RARRrrr... and stops...it's real slow... and sometimes it starts right up... sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times... does anyone know what the prob could be? We went to AutoZone today and they checked the Alternator... the Battery... and ran the diagnostic test on his Check Engine light... he only got back code 13... O2 sensor... we'll fix that soon tho... but anyone know bout this startin prob??

check the starter....make sure all the wiring is clean and tight...if it its, the starter is bad internally

Yup. Either the solenoid is not engaging the starter gear fully, or the starter gear itself is a little worn (including the overrunning clutch). I'd repair or replace the starter before the flywheel ring gear gets damaged beyond use.

another thing to check...make sure the starter itself is mounted tight...check the bolts.

If its not the wires to the starter then instead of removing the starter to have tested. Try to jump start the starter itself. Place a screw driver on main post of solenoid and see if it trys to engage.
