Identify this sensor

It's a 1990 L98 engine. On the passenger's side, there's a sensor in the head (I assume coolant temperature sensor), and there's a sensor in the block below it. What does the sensor in the block do? My oil pressure sensor is on the other side, so what is it?

Sensor in the head is a fan stat, sensor in the block is knock sensor.
