ticking lifters
Within about 1000 miles or so after a cam swap, I noticed a ticking sound whenver I put the engine under load. I was told this was the lifters. Could someone please tell me what would make them do that and how for that matter. Also, is it OK to drive it like this, I've put like 3000 miles on it since it began ticking.

You might check for an exhaust leak..."ticks" are usually that. Now "Taps" could be lifters. use the old metal rod stethoscope trick and see if the sound is coming from the valve covers....

Me too...hehehe. I had a cracked exhaust manifold after I did my cam swap (nice timing huh?). It drove me nuts.
This is something I learned from the fellas here. If it ticks all the time and gets louder with rpm then it's prolly a valve lash issue. If it's more noticeable at idle and under load then it's prolly an exhaust issue.
I found out for sure by taking the nitrous blow-down tube from my IROC and putting it on the valve covers, then pressing my ear to the other end. Works like a charm...
