poor air flow !!!!

Hey all, I have a problem with my '86 T-A. I seem to have reduced air flow from my a/c blower, the a/c coil gets plenty cold but there is very little air comming from the vents. can the blower motor be going out and not be turning fast enough ???

heres what I have check to date :

blower runs at different speeds in relation to controls (low, low med., high med.,high)
all dampers and diverters seem to work properly.
all duct work is intact.
fan has all blades intact.
can't find any restrictions in ductwork.

if you have any ideas please post them, it's getting warm here in VA. and I want my air working.

After 14 years, the evaporator can have a pretty thick accumulation of debris. Does the volume of air increase sharply as you move the temperature control from COLD to HOT? If so, your evaporator may be plugging with grass, seeds, lint, leaves, etc.

Well, I opened up the a/c coil box and checked the coil, it looks very clean and I can see light through it. any other ideas.

by the way, thanks for the input VADER !!

You've eliminated all the things I would have been looking at. I would have guessed a restriction, loose ductwork, dirty blower, failing blower motor, or a blower running backward (will still move air, just not nearly as much). Was the squirrel cage (blower wheel) clean? Dirt accumulated on the blower can reduce the efficiency. Beyond that, I'd remove the blower motor (pretty easy - a few screws) and check the brushes/commutator and wheel condition. You could also measure the actual voltage at the motor terminals (including the ground) at full speed to make sure you don't have a resistive connection somewhere.

I'm just guesing now....

thanks VADER, I pulled the blower motor the other day and checked the cage, that was my first thought also. all looked good, the motor spun over freely and the cage whas very clean (almost too clean for its age), I will try measuring the voltage and I might also try reversing the polarity (its worth a try), I ran the fan while it was out of the box and it seemed to really spin up but I don't know which direction it was turning. all the wiring is factory so I don't see how it could have been reversed but stranger things have happened.

well, I checked the voltage going to the blower and had 14.2 volts (probed the + and - at the motor). I then decided to replace the motor and the cage, it helped a little but not what I expected.
I am fresh out of ideas, anybody else have any ?????
