Car wont start

A few days ago i was driving my car around and came back to my house. Then i went to go out driving again and my car wpuldnt crank. The starter was engaing but not having enough to kick it over. I checked the battery and it was fine but then put it on trickle charge over night. The next morning i went to start it and it was doing the same thing, as if the battry was weak but both the charger and the gauge in the car showed it was good and all my lights worked. I kept trying to start it then i saw smoke come up from the engine. When i tried it again there was no noise or anything happeing when i would turn the key accept for the normal sounds and lights from the gas pump. But the starter did nothing and the engine didnt turn. Any ides on what might be wrong? I am guessing i need a new starter. Thnx for your time
Sry its kinds long.

What part of your engine was smoking? Could it have been the main cable going to your starter? If the contact somehow came loose, it would get hot enough to smoke, and also might not be carrying enough amps to crank the engine.

OK
When i went to crank it after i let it charge all night the starter was clicking and then it smoked. I was in my car when this happened but the hood was up and i saw smoke come up from the engine. I am preety sure that it is the starter, but i am not 100%. Today i was under the car and took of the starter but it is still under the car cause i have to remove part of the exhaust tubeing from the headers cause they are in the way and there is no way to get around it. So i am getting a new starter from autozone and if it works i will post it here. Thnx for the replys guys. Also one more quick question. What are the best spark plus to get it. It is a 350 TPI? thnx again.

I just replaced my starter in a 89 5.7 iroc and thought i was gonna have to start taken stuff off too to get the starter out but I was able to get it out without removing anything.

Try backing it away from the flywheel and then up in that little space, then turn it around and it should come right out.

Tip: I had to temporarily remove the solinoid on the new starter to get it in (finally realized this after figting it for about an hour in hell) The new starter had a longer bolt on the solinoid and it was keeping it from going in.

If you have the tools to take off the exhaust pipes that might be easier, I dunno. Took me about 20 mins to get it out (would of taken me 3 mins if I knew about the backing up and turing around thing. )

Anyway, good luck
