Which cam for the money???
Which cam for the money???
I am thinking about putting a cam in my 1990 Corvette and wanted to know what the best bang for the buck is. I have an L98 with a ZF6 speed. It has an 8psi Procharger on it already, along with long tube headers, SuperRam intake, Borla exhaust, high flow cat, 30lb injectors, and a 58mm throttle body. I can get a ZZ4 cam with matching springs for $175.00. The TPIS ZZ9 cam and springs is $500.00, and the HotCam kit, which includes cam, springs and 1.6 roller rockers is $525.00. What is best suited for my application?
C&D,
Comp Cams has several grinds developed specifically for boosted engines. Visit their site or give them a call and get a recommendation from their application engineers. Don't be surprised if the engineer is a woman, but she'll have a pretty good idea of what she's talking about. I have noticed, however, that the application people tend to be a little conservative with cam selection, so you may want to ask what their next higher recommended grind would be as well as their "optimal" choice. I installed their "optimal" choice in an LT1, then replaced it about a year later with the next step, with much more satisfactory results.

the ZZ4 and ZZ9 cams are too small to be useful for much. The LT4 HOT cam is a good grind, and a great deal for the money.
Or do as Vader suggested and call Comp. I'd also suggest getting the next size or 2 up from whatever they recommend.
