engine loses power when warm/hot

When i drive my car after its been sitting a while she hauls, but after driving for a while she seems to lose her guts, i know pretty much nothing about engines and was wondering if someone could help me with some ideas on this. The car is an 88 ta and there has been no mods done to my knowledge.

An engine will run much better when cold. Its just the way it is unfortunantly. Any engine that is hot will not run as good as one that is cold. Thats why when you go to the drag strip everyone turns their engine off until they get to the line. Some even ice their manifold for a few tenths of a second off their time. You could install an aluminum radiator and a better water pump. That would keep your car cooler but there is no way to stop all loss of performance from a hot engine. Just save your money and do some mods and youll forget about the little power loss. Hope that helps ya

I added MSD's heat shield to my plug wires...and the thermal wrap for my fuel lines....made a very very noticable difference. Then the Air dam...followed up with the cowel induction, The results are very very good...just some Ideas

Maybe check all your ignition components. Pay special attention to your plug wires. You may need to upgrade. There are ALOT of variables here.
" Compressing air raises its temperature. However, you would like to have the coolest air possible in the cylinder because the hotter the air is, the less it will expand when combustion takes place." Causing loss of power.

hey man,

Ever had your transmission serviced maybe? Maybe when it warms up the fluid becomes thinner, thus not providing hard shifts or possible slipping. hope that may help. Good luck

160 degree thermo, new radiator, new water pump...she runs at less than 160 degrees all the time. I was in a guys bone stock 5 speed 92 RS and seriously it was terribly slow compared to my car for some reason. I dont have a whole lot of mods and he has none but i figured the 5 speed would be faster. I noticed his car still runs at 220 degrees (not good) like mine did stock. Other than exhaust and intake my car just had a good tuneup and a few things removed and it running MUCH better than stock. BTW i smoked the RS by 5 car lengths.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, when i say warm/hot its not even hot, it stays around 80-100. But the themostat might be the problem, i ran it extremely hot about a week ago (took off the air damn and overheated on the highway) I gotta find out what to do tho, like i said the first drive of the day i feel like im driving an F1 race car but as the day progresses it feels like an old bus
