testing connections

how do i go about testing the connections going to the ignition module? in the past 2 weeks, i have had 3 modules in my car, and i still get a code 42.

what do i do to find the bad connection?

the car runs fine, but the SES light bothers me. im not about to cut the lead to the bulb, just cause i like to know when the computer finds something wrong.

Well, continuity test would be first, but you'll need the schematics. Might be time for a scantool to "see what the ECM is seeing" and go from there.

SB,

I agree - don't disconnect the lamp, repair the problem.

Visually inspect the connections at the EST and the detonation sensor.

what scantool would you suggest? and how much?

also, i forgot what software it was and how much., but where can i get the hookup that connects to a laptop and tells you what the computer sees as far as problems with the car.

SB,

The knock (detonation) sensor is mounted in the cylinder case on the right side, just in front of the starter. There is a connector that hangs in the heat from the exhaust and spray from the road that may be deteriorating. Lack of signal there can set a '42' as well.
