A/C Question
A/C Question
My A/C unit clutch is starting to squeal ('86 2.8). It has freon & the belt is tight. Can I spray something in the clucth? Is replacing the clutch ez and can I take it apart and clean it or something?
If the clutch is squealing the system is either overcharged and
building too much head pressure or the compressor is going bad.
The compressor is probably getting ready to take a dump. It is
starting to seize causing the clutch to squeal. It has also been
sending debris from the piston rings through the system which
has plugged the orifice valve also causing excess head pressure.
It's probably time for a system rebuild including compressor, drier,
orifice valve and a system flush to get rid of the crap from the
compressor that has built up in the lines, condenser and in the
evaporator.

I have seen oil and antifreeze contamination in an A/C clutch cause slippage and noise. Flush it out with very hot water, then cycle the A/C compressor several times to help clear it out. If that isn't helping, you need to see the first reply.
