White exhaust is coolant, oil would be blue. You may have a leaking intake manifold gasket that lets coolant accumulate on the valves or in the cylinders when the engine is shut off. Check the smoke for a blue tint, sometimes it is difficult to see, depending on the type of oil and amount of it.

when I had the hood open finding out my altanator died I noticed a slight hissing sound back that way that I never noticed before could that also be the intake manifold?
thanks for your advice

i have the same prob.... i have been told by several of my mechanic buddies that it is just leaky valve seals... and just to watch the oil levels... and that it won't hurt anything unless too much oil is burnt off...

try a search, there's loads of posts relating to "white smoke on start up". It would appear it's most likely the vavle stem seals, followed closely by water in the combustion chamber from blown gaskets or (like mine) a cracked head!
