305 engine question..305 vs. 305h.o.

I have a 1992 Camaro RS with a 700r4, and a 305h.o.
Is there a difference in the 305, and the 305 h.o.?
Or is a 305 a 305 h.o.?

I'm not sure why, but I have outran trucks that I knew had a 350 in them, and mid 70's corvettes also? 1994 CHEVY 1500, and a 1976 corvette stingray..

Both were from a rolling start going about 35-45 mph.

All I have done is a new waterpump, 2.5 inch exhaust, and an open element exhaust..

What's the deal?
Thanks fellas,
Terry

The HO got a better cam, and supposedly better heads.

Ok there's a bit of confusion here.

The 305 you have in your Camaro is not the HO of that year. It is the low-output 305TBI. The high output one is the TPI 305.

The reason you beat those cars was because the truck would have troubles breaking out of the 17's and the Vette would have troubles breaking 15's.

They stopped using the "HO" designation with the last of the carb L69's. No FI 305's were called "HO".

FWIW, I've outrun mid-70's to mid-'80's Vettes with the Camaro, side-by-side, at Bandimere.

Of course, I've been severely waxed by 4th gen F-bodies and C5's on a regular basis...
