alum heads for 305?

I want to put some Aluminum L98 Heads the ones off of 85-91 vettes on my 305. Right now i have a TBI and those heads are ****ty. But I am getting a TPI and all so I want some heads to flow a little better, then a cam and headers to go with it and ballance things out btwn intake and exhaust. Any ideas on where would be a good place to start looking? Or any junkyards that will ship them out to South Carolina?

i wouldn't bother, you'll have problems with valve shroulding, maybe valves hitting the deck. buy some aftermarket heads made for a 305

Valve shrouding doesn't occur even with 2.02/1.60 valves and a 60cc chamber until lifts past .550". The valves won't even hit the deck with 58cc chambers and 2.02/1.60 without reaching lift numbers of .600".

The Vette L98 heads use a 1.94/1.50 valve setup which will no question clear the 3.736" 305 bore without encountering valve shrouding. The only real problem I see with these heads is the dollar to hp ratio. They really won't yield huge gains just bolting them on and people selling them want top dollar because they come from a Vette.

Keep in mind too that the 85 L98 utilized iron heads and only 86 Convertible Vettes got the aluminum heads. The 86 coupes and hardtops still got the iron ones.

Also remember that the aluminum Vette heads used the pre 86 intake bolt pattern, while the 87-92 iron F-body heads used the new intake pattern. That means that base plates for TPI setups will vary. Pay close attention to this detail also.

Just keep these points in mind and happy hunting, if that's what you decide to do.
