Steering col. housing will not come off

Does anybody know where I could find a spelled-out procedure for changing the actuator rack in my steering column? I feel stupid posting here every other time I get stuck trying to figure out how to take the column apart.

Now I can't figure out how to remove the steering column housing from the steering column housing support. The housing pivots on a pin (with threads on one side) that runs through both - do I have to remove this? If so, how?

Sorry if I sound frustrated - I have been blowing the only few free hours I have after work when I can get a ride up to my parents house, only to have to get a ride back each time... this is taking forever!

i deal with this everyday. you have to get a speacial tool from the snap on man that costs 8.95 that threads into to pin and pulls ot out. it is like a mini steering wheel puller.

a self tapping sheetmetal screw, pair of visegrips and a flat blade screwdriver can be used if you do not have the proper tools to remove the pivot pins. first thread the screw into the pivot pin, then put visegrips onto the screw, and finally wedge a screwdriver in between the column and the pliers. then pry outwards being very careful not the break the screw in the process.

Thanks for the advice... I ended up finding a bolt that fit & threading it in w/a washer then prying out agains the washer... tonight I'll try to get things back together (can't wait ).

8-32 machine screw, ¼" socket for about a ½" hex as a drift, a washer, and an 8-32 nut. There's your puller. A self-tapping screw can ruin the threads in the pivot pin, sticking it in there forever, or until you tap new threads.
