HELP...new problems!

Can someone tell me what happens when the EGR valve begins to stick?
Reason being that my car has been acting up and progressivly getting worse. A friend of mine seems to thing that the EGR is going bad.
The problem is a resistive feeling while accelerating. To begin, throttle response sucks and the tach actually sitts in the same spot for a second or two when I floor it, then it begins to climb. Then as I am accelerating, I can fell a pulling or ressistance.(like an enormous giant has a rope tied to the rear bumber and gives a tug and holds it for a second)
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry about the "Jack and the Beanstalk" explaination, but I don't know how else to describe it.

sticks open or closed? closed not much, but open will let exhaust gas recycle into the engine to be reburnt. have you tried to trouble shoot it at all?

Ive heard that NAPA is starting to make a EGR gasket with a screen in it for catching pieces of carbon so they don't jam the valve. They don't have them for all cars yet. I've spoken with others on other forums and they liked the idea and so made their own gasket w/screen.

I tried to get underneath it and see if it was stuck. I wasn't able to get under there. I was also told that it can be checked with a vacume pump, but I don't have one of those either. That is why I asked what kind of symptoms are related to a bad EGR....open or closed.
In the past 6 mos I have changed out a bunch of parts and sensors. Right now it almost seems like the cat might be clogged, but that was replaced in Nov. I wouldn't have thought that it could have gone out already....or could it?
