Re: 305 Port and Polish Pictures

Just came across this thread from a mention in the HotRodders forum. Sitting Bull was mentioned over there with these instructions. I noticed he hasn't been reporting his annual reader survey. Are you still out there buddy?

Yup, but I forgot my password and had to log in using Facebook and my real name. I sold my 86 Camaro about 4 years back but still remember it fondly. I see this thread has about 135,000 views! I had no idea so many people would be interested in doing up their 305 heads but they are totally worth porting and polishing. My 86 Camaro leapt like a scalded rat when I first installed them and with a mild Crane cam (.427 and .454 lift), and Edelbrock Performer intake, the Rochester QJet tweaked up a tiny bit and Hooker Shorty headers it could easily get out of its own way. According to the HP computer program we were all using at the time, it was putting out about 1 hp per cubic inch gross hp. Any more hp and I'd have had to go to subframe connectors. Nice to see people are still finding this thread useful!

Don't be afraid to try this port and polish routine. It is not hard at all, just time consuming. If you can put in 3 hours a day it will be done in 5 days. I think all of us can handle that if we really want a good but cheap set of heads. Personally, if I did it again I would avoid the headers. They are just by their nature loud and the bolts were always loosening off. A genuine annoyance. There are ways to keep the bolts tight but no way to quiet down a 3 inch exhaust from headers.
