problems

first, let me say I do have a third gen, but, my question is about my sons mustang, first heres what I have: '84 mustang 3.8 V-6 throttle body injected, auto tranny,A/C.

heres my problem: the cars run perfect 99% of the time, then for apparently no reason, the car runs like its on 2 or 3 cylinders, it pours black smoke out of the tailpipe, then it will clear up and run perfect again, the amount of time it runs bad varys from seconds to minutes, there is no rhyme or reason to the times it runs bad.

heres what I have done so far: new plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, ignition module, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, put fuel injector cleaner in the tank with the new gas, timming chain, main and rod bearings, checked the TPS

I know that there are some full time mechanics out there that know fords and can probably help me. Please help!!!!!!
