Headers glowing - ECU tech please?
Headers glowing - ECU tech please?
I've got a problem with the headers glowing within a short time of start up. The last time I had this problem it was the ECU (aftermarket). At the same time it seems like the fuel rails are getting really hot. What this is all leading to is the fact that after these two things happen the car doesn't want to turn over. As matter of fact the terminal that goes from the soleniod to the starter starts to glow. This motor has never had a problem with this before but has always had a DFI on it in the past. The starter is a brand new mini high torque. I've got plenty of grounds from motor to body, body to battery, battery to motor. If anyone would have an idea, it would be greatly appreciated. Oh yea, I also just replaced the computer as well.
If it would help, I'm running a 406, port pollished D-port aluminums, 2050 cam, 11.5 : 1 compression and have the timing at 0 and runs at a nice 160 to 180 degrees.
My main concerns are the glowing headers and the really hot fuel rails.
Thanks..........Dave

"Most" headers that glow are an indication that you are running too lean. The heat from the headers could be transfering to the fuel rails simply by heat transfer from the headers to the heads, then to the fuel rails.
Not saying this is the only thing that will cause the fuel rails to get hot, but glowing headers are VERY HOT!!!
Is there any way for you to get an AIR/FUEL ratio reading?

The terminal glowing on the solenoid would concern me. If you are running the proper grounds, then that shouldn't happen, unless the heat from the engine is THAT high.
Also, are you using a stock ECM/chip combo right now? The stock chip is going to have WAY too much timing in it for that combo with high compression.
What about the fuel injectors/constant in the chip?
HTH,
