I have an altenator problem!

Hey Everyone, this is my problem...... I was driving home and my car started to churp! I looked at my battery gauge and it was dead! So I popped the hood to look at the altenator and this piece fell of the wiring of the altenator! My buddy called it a "capaciter"? We believe it was connected to the power line of the altenator. I have a 92 Z-28 305 TPI. Does anyone know what this is? It's orange in color, and looks like it belongs to a chip board of a radio(boom box). Is this piece important? Any help will do. Thanx alot guys///// Maximus

I don't believe that the alternator has any capacitors on/in it. It does have a rectifier/regulator, and diodes. Maybe it's a diode? Do you think that it was originally on the alt., or in it?

If it was on it, then somethings wrong. I don't have any external electronic components on my alt. at all. Just wires/terminals. (Maybe I just missed some when I changed mine?) Hopefully no one modified it in a strange way.

Regardless, sounds like you need a new alt.
