How are these ideas for ramps???
Well i've been planning on making a new set of ramps for my car...some that i can actually use to lift the entire car up, not just the front or back. I made a quick sketch of a basic idea in MS Paint...its very rough, but it gives the basic idea. Its made up of 4 sections, the ramp, two wheel supports/blocks, and a removable mid piece. You can pull the middle piece so you can access the car from the sides, and not just the front. Hooks/latches will be installed on the outside of each piece so all the pieces can be hooked together. I have more ideas on how to lighten the pieces, mainly the wheel supports, so they aren't a solid block of wood.
Anyways, just wanted to post this and get everyone's opinions and suggestions. Any idea is appreciated!!
Btw, the top drawing is the side view, and the bottom drawing is the top view. I'll try to get a better rendering later on once i find my copy of autocad (unless someone has a copy
)....i'll be on vacation for a week, leaving tomorrow so i won't be able to build this for a little bit.

I had a similar idea, but it involved rail road ties and stacking them but cutting them at an angle to drive up, but not having the sides come out. Never drew designs, just thought of it in my head.
Your idea sounds good.

Doesnt look like a bad idea, just make sure you put big washers on the ends of the bolts so they dont want to pull through the wood.
i'll make a mental note of that
Surprisingly, i'm still using the ones that my dad made when he was my age - - over 35 years ago....and it's still held together by a bunch of nails
I also managed to "find" my copy of autocad (
), so i'll try to draw out a full plan tonite and try to get it posted (dimensions and everything)
