when you had the dist. open, did the wires to the module look ok sometimes they get crispy...could be the pickup coil..check the wires closely for cracks and such.

I have more facts to go on now the car will start sometime and not others when the car does start the left fan is on if your looking in front of the car then the other fan will kick on shortly after no keep in mind the car is not hot yet When the second fan kicks on the engine stumbles like it wants to stall sometimes it will. Also when i turn the air on it clicks like its trying to work but is not. I know the air has something to do with the fan switchs so i am thinking a sensor is out of wack. what is funny is i had the car started heated it up to temp then shut it down it would not restart any help is great thanks in advance
please help me

Don't laugh , but it could be your altenator not charging the battery like it should . Test it with a multimeter . Could be your battery to . My Dad was just having hot start problems recently , ended up being his battery , test that also with a multimeter . Or if you dont have a mutlitmeter or dont know how to use one , take it to the parts store around you and they usually test altenators and batterys for free .

The fact that the cooling fans start is a good hint. The primary fan is controlled by the ECM, based on input from the CTS. If the CTS is reporting a higher temperature than it should, the fan will operate. This may not be apparent on the dash temperature gauge, since the sensor for the gauge is separate from the ECM input.
A CTS reporting too high will also prevent the cold start cycle - the additional fuel required to start a cold engine. It would also tend to lean out the mixture overall and retard spark. You can test the CTS with an ohmmeter, and compare it to the table:

If the resistance is not within ± 50 ohms at a specified temperature, the CTS may be bad or there may be a CTS circuit problem.
